Coastal Property Owners Turn to NE&C

Hurricane SandyOver 600 households in Rhode Island registered with FEMA for disaster assistance and over 1,000 flood insurance claims have been filed as a result of Superstorm Sandy. Northeast Engineers has had the opportunity to assist those affected by providing seawall designs, coastal foundation designs and septic system repairs.

This is a photograph of what remains of a septic system that was used by three beachside cottages in Matunuck, Rhode Island. The storm removed almost seven feet of soil from this coastal property, exposing the septic system and causing the foundation of one of the cottages to fail. The site was left with no available land area for a new septic system so NE&C designed a holding tank that will be installed partially within the existing garage. NE&C is also providing the property owner with structural design services as they decide whether to rebuild the coastal most cottage or focus their efforts on protecting the two remaining cottages from future erosion.
