A friend in need

Please join NE&C in supporting Red’s Rally.  Red’s Rally is a fundraiser created by our long time client and local Architect Alec Tesa and his wife Aubrielle to help support a terminally ill loved one. Michelle “Shelley” Patch, 44 years old, was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer.  Her doctors believe she has about twelve months left.  Donations will afford her the opportunity to focus on what matters most in the coming months; time with her husband, her three young children, and her extended family and friends.  Please read more about this great cause and Aubrielle’s fundraising efforts through the completion of a 140 mile IRONMAN race at www.redsrally.org.  Together we can help the Tesa’s reach their goal to support a loved one’s remaining time with her family.

Dan Szymanski Receives PBN “40 Under Forty” Award

Congratulations to Dan Szymanski, NE&C’s president, and all the winners of Providence Business News’ “40 Under Forty” award. The 40 Under Forty winners were selected based on career success and community involvement. All are young professionals who have committed to making a difference on a local, national or international scale.  Mark Murphy, PBN editor, observed that “talent, determination, and ambition” characterized this years winners and Dan is no exception.

Dan has been with NE&C since 2003, shortly after graduating from URI’s civil engineering program.  He was promoted to Vice President in 2009, President in 2012, and recently became an owner of the company.  In the community, he serves as a Board Member and Chairman of the Architectural and Engineering Committee of the Fort Adams Trust.

Dan’s contributions continuously evolve based on the needs of the company and our clients. In 2005, he managed the residential development group and created a project management strategy that catered specifically to the needs of homeowners. Later, in 2008, Dan relocated to Dubai for five months and managed several civil engineering projects there. In 2010, as the global and local economy continued to struggle, he worked to secure Federal and State projects allowing NE&C to remain competitive and continue supporting our clients.  Dan’s latest efforts are focused on reaching out to new clients through supporting and growing his networks, leading concerted business development efforts, and – most importantly – working diligently to ensure continued high quality services and client satisfaction.

We are all proud of Dan’s accomplishments and leadership and eagerly anticipate what is yet to come…

Coastal Property Owners Turn to NE&C

Monday, March 18th, 2013

Hurricane SandyOver 600 households in Rhode Island registered with FEMA for disaster assistance and over 1,000 flood insurance claims have been filed as a result of Superstorm Sandy. Northeast Engineers has had the opportunity to assist those affected by providing seawall designs, coastal foundation designs and septic system repairs.

This is a photograph of what remains of a septic system that was used by three beachside cottages in Matunuck, Rhode Island. The storm removed almost seven feet of soil from this coastal property, exposing the septic system and causing the foundation of one of the cottages to fail. The site was left with no available land area for a new septic system so NE&C designed a holding tank that will be installed partially within the existing garage. NE&C is also providing the property owner with structural design services as they decide whether to rebuild the coastal most cottage or focus their efforts on protecting the two remaining cottages from future erosion.

Newport Maritime Center Now Open to the Public

Tuesday, June 19th, 2012

armoryLast year NE&C provided civil engineering services to the City of Newport. Now, the much anticipated Newport Maritime Center is open to boaters. The Center is a City owned and operated, “touch-and-go facility”. It provides showers, laundry, lockers and internet access to transient boaters docked at the Ann Street Pier. The center is housed inside the historic Newport Armory building, which functioned as a military armory from 1894 until the 1980s.

The Center was made possible by drainage solutions designed by NE&C to overcome obstacles posed by the beach level location. We also assessed the structural condition of the 19th century building and recommended improvements to ensure that the facility could be safely used into the future. NE&C is proud to have played an important role in this maritime project that can be enjoyed by all boaters.

NE&C congratulates the Aquidneck Land Trust for the successful completion of the Sakonnet Greenway Trail

Sunday, May 6th, 2012

sakonnett-greenwayNE&C recently joined many others including Governor Lincoln Chafee, RIDEM Director Janet Coit, and Aquidneck Land Trust Executive Director Ted Clement at the grand opening of the new 5 mile segment of the Sakonnet Greenway Trail. The 5 mile trail joins an existing trail previously designed by NE&C as part of the Newport National Golf Course development. The combined 10 mile trail runs along the eastern side of Aquidneck Island and includes learning kiosks and timber bridge wetland crossings. It provides exercise, recreation, and hands-on educational opportunities for the students, residents, and visitors of Aquidneck Island.

NE&C was proud to assist the Aquidneck Land Trust in the design and permitting of the trail and wetland crossings. We supported the project by providing surveying, site design, and structural design services.
